78th Street Studios to showcase local artists at Severance Hall during Fridays@7 performances

Post-concert parties will take place in the Grand Foyer with a DJ, live music in Severance Restaurant, and expanded lounge areas for post-concert socializing in the Smith Lobby

Release Date:  January 14, 2016

CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Orchestra’s popular KeyBank Fridays@7 concerts continue in 2016 with a 7:00 p.m. start time, no intermission, and an after-party following each Orchestra concert.  KeyBank Fridays@7 concerts are less formal, onstage and off.  This year’s concerts feature French, Austrian, and Russian repertoire:  February 5 French music by Ravel and Debussy, April 15 an Austrian theme with music by Mozart, and the final concert on May 6 a Russian theme with music by Rachmaninoff and Stravinsky.

As Fridays@7 continues to evolve for the 2016 series, artwork provided by 78th Street Studios will be displayed in Severance Hall’s public spaces.  The Fridays@7 experience will continue to offer concertgoers two post-concert experience options, both with music.  First, the opportunity to socialize with food and drink while listening to DJ Brad Petty in the Richard J. Bogomolny and Patricia M. Kozerefski Grand Foyer or relaxing with friends in a lounge setting in the Kelvin & Eleanor Smith Lobby, where the DJ’s music will be piped in.  Second, Severance Restaurant will be open with a series of post-concert, acoustic performances featuring popular Cleveland musicians.  The restaurant, which opens at 5 p.m. for pre-concert dining, will offer full dinner service pre- and post-concert.  In addition, the 2016 season will include expanded lounge areas in the Bogomolny-Kozerefski Grand Foyer and Smith Lobby.

Fridays@7 Concert Programming
The opening concert on February 5 features guest conductor Vladimir Jurowski with pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet.  The all-French program comprises Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major and Debussy’s Images.  Following the concert, the evening’s French theme will continue with French-inspired music in the Bogomolny-Kozerefski Grand Foyer as well as specialty French food and beverages.

The series continues on April 15 with an Austrian theme.  An all-Mozart program led by guest conductor Jane Glover features Cleveland Orchestra Principal Flute Joshua Smith and harpist Yolanda Kondonassis as soloists in the Concerto in C major for Flute, Harp, and Orchestra.  The concert concludes with Mozart’s Symphony No. 39.

The last Fridays@7 concert of the season, on May 6, features Russian music.  Guest conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada leads a program consisting of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with Kirill Gerstein as soloist, and a suite from Stravinsky’s The Firebird
