The Cleveland Orchestra

Mark Dumm is a member of the first violin section of The Cleveland Orchestra. He joined the ensemble in 1985 and has served in several positions, including first assistant principal of the second violin section. Mr. Dumm was a member of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra for two seasons prior to joining The Cleveland Orchestra. In addition to violin, he plays guitar, mandolin, and banjo, and performs with the Orchestra on those instruments when they are called for. Mr. Dumm has appeared as soloist with The Cleveland Orchestra on several occasions, including performances of Saint-SaĆ«ns’s Violin Concerto No. 3 and works by Corelli and Vivaldi during the 2001 Blossom Festival. Mr. Dumm has been involved in the production of numerous concert television broadcasts as well as the video recording of the Cleveland International Piano Competition.

A member of a musical family, Mr. Dumm began his studies with his father, Thomas Dumm, principal violist of the Saint Louis Symphony. He studied with Margaret Pardee at the Juilliard School and subsequently attended Indiana University, studying with former Cleveland Orchestra concertmaster Josef Gingold..
