Thomas Klaber

Bass Trombone
The Cleveland Orchestra

Thomas Klaber, born in Covington, Kentucky, in 1957, began playing the euphonium at age 9. At 13, he started lessons with Betty Glover, who was the bass trombonist with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. At age 18, Mr. Klaber switched to bass trombone, and in 1980 he won a position with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra on that instrument. In 1985, he joined The Cleveland Orchestra as bass trombonist, succeeding Edwin Anderson. Mr. Klaber has performed as principal euphonium with the Blossom Festival Band since 2001. He lives in South Euclid with his wife, Gayle. They have two children, Gretchen, a political science student at Ohio University, and Daniel, who, along with his partner, Holly Moore, is ranked as the top intermediate ice dancing team in the United States.
