Alicia Koelz joined the first violin section of The Cleveland Orchestra at the beginning of the 2005-06 season. She has appeared as a soloist with the Minnesota Orchestra, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Chicago Civic Orchestra, Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra, and the Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra. Prior to joining The Cleveland Orchestra, she was a substitute player with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
Ms. Koelz has participated in many summer music programs, including the Sarasota Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, Encore School for Strings, Chautauqua Institute, and the Quartet Program at Bucknell University. Among her awards are top prizes in the Music Teachers National Association competition (national level) and, in Minneapolis, the Young People’s Symphony Concert Association, the Schubert Club Scholarship Competition, and Thursday Musical Scholarship Competition.
Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Alicia Koelz holds a bachelor of music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a master of music degree from Northwestern University. Her principal teachers have been William Preucil (concertmaster of The Cleveland Orchestra), Sally O’Reilly, Almita and Roland Vamos, and Mary West. Ms. Koelz is a member of the Omni Quartet.
