Thomas Klaber was born in Covington, Kentucky, and began playing the euphonium at age 9. At 13, he started lessons with Betty Glover, who was the bass trombonist with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. At age 18, Mr. Klaber switched to bass trombone, and in 1980 he won a position with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra on that instrument. He joined The Cleveland Orchestra in 1985 in the position of bass trombone, succeeding Edwin Anderson. Mr. Klaber performed as principal euphonium with the Blossom Festival Band for over a decade, beginning in 2001. He has two children, Gretchen, a Republican partry operative living in Columbus, and Daniel, an ice skating coach.
