Jacob Nissly joined The Cleveland Orchestra as principal percussion with the start of the 2011-12 season. He previously served as principal percussion of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and was a member of the New World Symphony in Florida. He has also performed with ensembles including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Houston Symphonym, and Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
Mr. Nissly was born in Beatrice, Nebraska, and grew up in Grimes, Iowa, near Des Moines. He holds a bachelor of music and jazz studies degree from Northwestern University and a master of music degree from the Juilliard School. In 2011, he was appointed to the faculty of the Eastman School of Music as an adjunct professor of percussion.
