Cleveland Orchestra Children's Choruses

Ann Usher has served as Director of the Cleveland Orchestra Children’s Choruses since 2000.  She prepares the Children’s Chorus for their parts in the Orchestra’s performances of operas and symphonic works that call for children’s voices and for the annual Christmas Concerts and other events.  Ms. Usher is a professor of music at the University of Akron, where she teaches graduate and undergraduate choral music education and conducts the University Singers.  In January 2012, she was appointed interim director of the University's School of Music.  Prior to joining the Akron faculty, she taught public school choral music for eleven years, specializing in the middle school level. Ms. Usher has served on the Adjudicated Events Committee of the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) since 1999 and has held several offices in both OMEA and the Ohio Choral Directors Association.  Her groups have performed at several state and regional conferences for both organizations.  Active as a clinician and adjudicator, Ann Usher holds a bachelor of music education degree from the University of Northern Iowa, and a master of music degree in choral conducting and a PhD in music education from Kent State University.
