The Cleveland Orchestra

Yu Yuan joined the first violin section of The Cleveland Orchestra at the beginning of the 2001-02 season. Prior to her appointment, she was a member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Raised by a musical family in Bejing, China, she studied at the Central Conservatory of China with Li Han and Zhenshan Wang. She holds a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, where she studied with William dePasquale, and an artist diploma (graduate level) from the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, where she studied with Berl Senofsky.

Ms. Yuan has studied at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California, with Zvi Zeitlin, and at the University of Houston, with Fredell Lack. She also studied at the Tanglewood Music Center for two summers, serving as concertmaster of the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra during her first summer there. She was a member of the Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia and the second place winner of the American Music Teachers Association National Competition in 1988.
