A fundamental commitment to music education by founder Adella Prentiss Hughes has motivated The Cleveland Orchestra throughout its history to serve the community and leave a lasting musical legacy. Today, programs in Severance Hall, in schools, conservatories, libraries and community centers provide education and access to orchestral music for students of all ages, and give teachers the tools to integrate music into the classrooms and lives of thousands of students each year. And through residencies in the United States and abroad, The Cleveland Orchestra takes its mission for education on the road.
PNC Musical Rainbows
For Preschool-Kindergarten Students
Which instrument is bigger — violin or viola? Which can make the highest sound — and why? What’s a bassoon? How many strings are on a harp? Young children will discover the answers to these musical questions and more during Musical Rainbow programs held throughout the school year in the 400-seat Reinberger Chamber Hall at Severance Hall. These 30-minute programs introduce different orchestral instruments or instrument families and most are performed by a Cleveland Orchestra musician. Every program includes a lively host, accompanist, and interactive, sing-along fun!

PNC Grow Up Great (Pre-K): A Great Early Start in the Arts
For CMSD pre-k students
This partnership with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District uses music to develop school-readiness skills (such as learning to count, learning the alphabet, following directions, and listening), and engages young children in active music making. Through focused, teacher-led classroom activities and special visits from Cleveland Orchestra musicians, students learn key academic, social, motor and musical skills that help prepare them for kindergarten and beyond.

High School Students
Back by popular demand! Because the Violins of Hope Education Concerts were so well received in December 2015, they will return in March 2017 in order to reach more students throughout Northeast Ohio. The concerts center on the violins that survived the Holocaust and what they can teach all of us about resistance, resilience, and the human spirit. The Violins of Hope concert program combines music and dramatic vignettes to engage the audience in this important period in history. A teacher workshop to prepare your students is also available.
