Severance Hall joins the city-wide celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s life with a Community Open House offering free instrumental, vocal, and spoken-word performances throughout the afternoon. Admission is free and no tickets are required. Spend the day at Severance Hall or stop by to see community music ensembles and performances, including presentations by the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra and Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus.

Citizens Leadership Academy Drummers led by Sogbety

. . . performing African drumming. Sogbety Diomande is a native of the Ivory Coast in West Africa and has been a member of Ballet National de Côte d’Ivoire, Kotchegna Dance Company, and has been featured with many companies in New York City and around the United States.

Spiritual Gifts Gospel Chorus
. . . performing and teaching others about the music of the historic African-American church. Each member brings a wealth of talent, training, and performance experience to their work. The Spiritual Gifts Gospel Choir works in collaboration with Cleveland State University’s Initiative for the Study of Religion and Spirituality in the History of Africa and the Diaspora (RASHAD), and the Praying Grounds Oral History Project.
