Blossom Festival Band Holiday Weekend Concert

| These traditional, old-fashioned holiday band concerts feature Tchaikovsky’s "1812" Overture, in an arrangement for band. In addition, the program includes Richard Rodgers’s Symphonic Scenario from South Pacific, music by Stephen Foster, "March-Past of the United States Armed Forces," and Don Gillis’s "Requiem for a Hero" from Symphony No. 10 Big D, and Sousa marches. Soprano Laura Pedersen will be featured in "Simple Gifts" by Aaron Copland and "Tonight" from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein.
These concerts are to be followed by a fireworks display, weather permitting.
The Blossom Festival will offer patrons an All-American Cookout on the Blossom grounds. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for picnicking. Concertgoers may purchase a variety of grilled fare, ice cream and non-alcoholic drinks. As always, patrons are also welcome to bring their own picnics .

Cleveland Orchestra Acting Principal Trombone player Steven Witser will be soloist in "The Gondolier" by Gardell Simons.

The compact discs available this evening featuring Mr. Ehnes include his latest release, a 2-CD set of Mozart’s complete works for violin and orchestra, and his French Showpieces CD, featuring works by Saint-Saëns, Berlioz, Chausson, Debussy, Milhaud, and Massenet.

Franklin Cohen, clarinet, and John Clouser, bassoon, are the soloists in the Duet-Concertino. Following this concert, Jahja Ling will autograph recording purchases from the Bandwagon Gift Shop at the Special Events Plaza inside the Smith Plaza. The compact discs available this evening featuring Mr. Ling include his Symphonic Dances CD, featuring works by Bernstein, Ravel, and Richard Strauss.

| FREE FAMILY EVENT Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital presents "Powerful Percussion", part of The Cleveland Orchestra's Musical Rainbow series for children ages 3 to 6 and their families. This 30-minute narrated program will introduce children to percussion instruments, demonstrate how they produce their sounds, and hightlight the special sounds they can make. Children can participate by singing, clapping and marching!
Hudson Library and Historical Society is located at First and Main (96 Liberty Street) in Hudson. Free admission -- no tickets required.

| Join Loras John Schissel and the Blossom Festival Orchestra for an evening of popular music by John Williams, including music from Harry Potter, Star Wars and E.T., as well as Carousel and other classic movies.
Following this concert, Loras John Schissel will autograph the Blossom Festival Band CD at the Special Events Center inside the main gates. This CD may be purchased online, at the Blossom Bandwagon Shop the evening of the performance, and also at the Special Events Center during Mr. Schissel’s appearance.
