Canadian Brass
The Canadian Brass, whom the Washington Post calls “the men who put brass music on the map,” returns to the Blossom Festival on Saturday, August 28, at 8 p.m. with an exhilarating program of baroque, classical, and popular favorites including Essential Beatles featuring songs by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor, a suite from Bizet’s Carmen, and a suite from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess – all performed with high-spirited energy. Original member Chuck Daellenbach, tuba, continues the tradition of the group with newer members of the ensemble. Complete repertoire for the concert is listed below.
Sunday, August 29
Relive the music that defined an era in a program titled “The Greatest Generation – Music from the ’40s,” performed by the Blossom Festival Orchestra under the direction of Loras John Schissel on Sunday, August 29, at 7 p.m. This evening celebrating history features music by Glenn Miller, Cole Porter, and George Gershwin, along with selections from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific, music by John Williams from the soundtrack to Saving Private Ryan, and the world premiere of Stars in the Field of Blue by Paul W. Whear. Vocalist Helen Welch, a Brit who now lives in Northeast Ohio, joins the orchestra in selections from the Great American Songbook.
