When Nicholas McGegan recently conducted the New York Philharmonic, The New York Times commented, “When it comes to conveying the vital spark in Handel’s music, Mr. McGegan has few peers.” Music director of the San Francisco-based Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra for the past 25 years, Nicholas McGegan leads The Cleveland Orchestra in a concert on Saturday, July 17, at 8 p.m., featuring Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, with Cleveland Orchestra First Associate Concertmaster Peter Otto as soloist in the four concertos, among the most popular in the violin repertoire. The concert also features a suite from Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks.

In June 2010, Nicholas McGegan was made an Officer of the British Empire for “services to music overseas” in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list. Click here for a video clip of Mr. McGegan conducting music by Handel.
