NEWS RELEASE

Pink Martini appears with The Cleveland Orchestra
in second program of 2009-10 Celebrity Series
at Severance Hall on March 30

CLEVELAND, March 15, 2010The Cleveland Orchestra presents the second program in its new three-concert Celebrity Series at Severance Hall on Tuesday, March 30, at 8:00 p.m. The new Celebrity Series explores avenues of orchestral music that stretch beyond the borders of the classical world – movie scores, jazz riffs, Broadway, and beyond. The March 30 program, featuring the eclectic sounds of Pink Martini, will be led by Cleveland Orchestra Assistant Conductor James Feddeck.

Pink Martini

Pink Martini is “a little orchestra” from Portland, Oregon, that is steeped in jazz, Japanese pop, Italian film scores, and French cabaret. They have performed their multicultural repertoire on concert stages and with symphony orchestras throughout Europe, Asia, Greece, Turkey, Lebanon, Canada, and the United States – including multiple concerts with the Boston Pops and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the grand opening of Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and the opening party of New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

Members of Pink Martini include China Forbes, vocals; Thomas Lauderdale, piano; Robert Taylor, trombone; Gavin Bondy, trumpet; Brian Lavern Davis, congas, drums, and percussion; Derek Rieth, percussion; Martin Zarzar, percussion; Phil Baker, bass; Timothy Nishimoto, vocals and percussion; Nicholas Crosa, violin; Pansy Chang, cello; and Dan Faehnle, guitar.

Final Celebrity Series Program of the Season

On April 25, 2010, jazz trumpeter Chris Botti joins The Cleveland Orchestra for an evening that combines jazz standards and classical hits for the last Celebrity series program of the 2009-10 season. Botti has recorded familiar songs including “When I Fall in Love” and “To Love Again” and has worked with Joshua Bell, Michael BublĂ©, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, Yo-Yo Ma, Frank Sinatra, and Sting. He also has performed with many leading symphony orchestras and at prestigious events including the World Series and the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony. Botti’s 2008 performances with the Boston Pops, titled Chris Botti in Boston, have been featured on the PBS network, with which he has an ongoing association, and are available on CD, DVD, and Blu-ray.
