CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Orchestra and Choruses join forces for nine concerts of traditional Christmas favorites during The Cleveland Orchestra’s 2010 Holiday Festival, December 4-22. Cleveland actors Reuben and Dorothy Silver will narrate “’Twas the Night Before Christmas” on the seasonal programs, which also feature sing-alongs.
The beloved Vienna Boys Choir and Cleveland’s own Burning River Brass will each give one performance (December 15 and December 22, respectively) during the Holiday Festival. Also included in the Festival are three diverse PNC Holiday Musical Rainbow programs for families with children up to age nine – “Music of Chanukah,” “Christmas Brass Quintet,” and “All About Kwanzaa,” featuring members of the Orchestra and guests. Donna Willingham will be the guest storyteller for the “All About Kwanzaa” program.
On December 8, “Holiday Movie Magic” presents music from seasonal classics including Miracle on 34th Street, Polar Express, White Christmas, It’s a Wonderful Life, and Home Alone. On December 16, Pianist Dave Brubeck and his legendary jazz quartet perform with The Cleveland Orchestra in celebration of Brubeck’s 90th birthday. “An Evening with Dave Brubeck” features many hits from the platinum-selling album Time Out, such as “Take Five,” “Blue Rondo à la Turk,” and “Three to Get Ready.” (Please note: The concert featuring the Dave Brubeck Quartet does not have a holiday theme.)
Families can arrive early for the 3:00 p.m. Christmas Concerts on December 11, 12, 18, and 19 to have Lunch with Santa in Severance Restaurant from 12:00 p.m. until 3 p.m. Call 216-231-7373 or email reservations@clevelandorchestra.com for reservations.
