Music Director Franz Welser-Möst conducts The Cleveland Orchestra in Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 5 in B-flat major at Severance Hall on Thursday, May 12, at 8 p.m.; Friday, May 13, at 8 p.m.; and Saturday, May 14, at 8 p.m. German violinist Julia Fischer will perform as soloist in Alban Berg’s Violin Concerto, in her Severance Hall debut.

Following Ms. Fischer’s Cleveland Orchestra debut at Blossom in 2008 as soloist in the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, the Cleveland Plain Dealer called her “a violinist of impeccable taste, silvery timbre and flawless intonation who has an instinctive way of elevating musical messages.” Click here for a video of Julia Fischer.

The Cleveland Orchestra and Franz Welser-Möst have made DVDs and recordings of Bruckner’s Fifth, Seventh, Eighth, and Ninth Symphonies in three historic venues:  Vienna’s Musikverein; the Abbey of St. Florian near Linz, Austria; and Severance Hall. Click here for an excerpt of the Orchestra’s DVD recording of Bruckner’s Symphony No. 5, made at the Abbey of St. Florian.

In July, the Orchestra and Mr. Welser-Möst will perform Bruckner’s Eighth and Ninth Symphonies at the Blossom Festival, followed by performances of the Symphonies Nos. 5, 7, 8, and 9 (along with works by John Adams) at the Lincoln Center Festival, beginning a multi-year residency at the Festival that will continue in subsequent years with performances of Vienna State Opera productions. This season, the Orchestra and Franz Welser-Möst have performed Bruckner symphonies in Japan and South Korea, Ohio, Scotland, and Switzerland.
