Dee Dee Bridgewater

Grammy Award-winning jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater makes her debut with The Cleveland Orchestra in A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, the “First Lady of Song,” at Severance Hall on Friday, April 29, at 8 p.m.  The program features Ella Fitzgerald’s best-loved jazz hits plus other favorites including Barbra Streisand’s “The Way We Were” and “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music.  Cleveland Orchestra Assistant Conductor Sasha Mäkilä will conduct the program, which is the fourth and final concert in The Cleveland Orchestra’s 2010-11 Celebrity Series.  The concert is presented in collaboration with Tri-C JazzFest.

THE CELEBRITY SERIES

Launched as a three-concert series during the 2009-10 season, the Celebrity Series drew sold-out houses for each performance.  For the 2010-11 season, a fourth concert was added to offer an even broader range of musical styles, exploring avenues of orchestral music that stretch beyond the borders of the classical world to include movie scores, jazz riffs, Broadway, and the Great American Songbook, and sounds from the world at large.
