Kurt Masur conducts The Cleveland Orchestra
in program featuring Brahms’s Symphony No. 4
David Fray makes Severance Hall debut in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2

Conductor Kurt Masur, a former music director of the Orchestre National de France (2002-08) and of the New York Philharmonic (1991-2002) as well as Gewandhaus Kapellmeister of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra (1970-1996), will conduct The Cleveland Orchestra in a program featuring Brahms’s Symphony No. 4 in E minor, Opus 98, at Severance Hall on Thursday, April 21, at 8 p.m.; Friday, April 22, at 8 p.m.; and Saturday, April 23, at 8 p.m. French pianist David Fray will be soloist in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat major, Opus 19, in his Severance Hall debut. The program opens with Mendelssohn’s Overture: The Hebrides.
Kurt Masur made his Cleveland Orchestra debut in November 1974 and has conducted the Orchestra in more than 45 concerts since then. His most recent appearances with the Orchestra were in March 2009, at Severance Hall and in Miami. Mr. Masur has also conducted the Gewandhaus Orchestra of Leipzig at Severance Hall, in November 1984 and October 1993.
Pianist David Fray made his Cleveland Orchestra debut at the Blossom Festival in August 2009.

On April 21, 22, and 23, David Rothenberg, assistant professor of music at Case Western Reserve University, will give a Concert Preview titled “Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and Brahms” at 7 p.m. in Reinberger Chamber Hall. This series is funded by a generous endowment gift from Dorothy Humel Hovorka.

The Ticket Office is open 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday-Friday and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Closed Sundays and holidays, except for those days with performances, when the Ticket Office opens 3 hours before concert start time.
