Series Description
Music Study Group classes explore music from the Orchestra’s upcoming subscription concerts through lively presentations and listening activities. Participants, ranging from beginners to seasoned listeners, learn about the lives and musical styles of composers in addition to the cultural and historical context of the music, while also developing keen listening skills. The series is presented by The Cleveland Orchestra in partnership with the above community organizations and with additional support from the Women’s Committee of the Cleveland Orchestra.
Presenter
Music Study Groups are led by lecturer Rose Breckenridge, who earned her Ph.D. in music from Case Western Reserve University. In addition to her Music Study Group presentations, Dr. Breckenridge serves as the regular preview speaker for The Cleveland Orchestra’s Friday Matinee concert series and gives concert previews before other select Cleveland Orchestra concerts at Severance Hall. View Armond Budish’s interview of Rose Breckenridge about the Music Study Groups on WKYC-TV3’s “Golden Opportunities.”
Registration
The course fee for a full-series Music Study Group is $100; for any two-part combination of fall, winter, or spring, $80; any one part, $50. Some sites do not offer a full series, but registrants can extend their series at another location. Fees include the 2011-12 Listening Guide, a spiral-bound book of program notes and musical themes from featured compositions.
