perform concert at Severance Hall on March 6

In second Youth Orchestra program of the season, Music Director James Feddeck
conducts Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade

The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra will perform its second Severance Hall concert of the 2010-11 season on Sunday, March 6, 2011, at 7 p.m. James Feddeck, in his second season as music director of the Youth Orchestra, will begin the performance with Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade. After intermission, the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, joined by the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus, prepared by its director, Frank Bianchi, will perform selections from Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. Vocal soloists in the performance will be Youth Chorus members Justin Caithaml (attends Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music, is from Elyria) and Jaired Birks (attends Cleveland Heights High School), both baritones.

FREE CONCERT PRELUDE

Ensembles from the Youth Orchestra will perform chamber music at a Prelude Concert in Reinberger Chamber Hall beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Prelude program is free to concert ticket holders. A woodwind quartet comprised of flutist Elise Campbell (Mayfield High School), oboist Joshua Lauretig (Beachwood High School), clarinetist Rosemary Bullock (homeschooled, Norton), and bassoonist Vincent Disantis (Willoughby South High School) will perform Stravinsky’s Pastorale, Debussy’s “Golliwog’s Cakewalk” from Mother Goose (arranged by Bill Holcombe and Bill Holcombe Jr.), and the first movement (Allegro) from Jean Françaix’s Woodwind Quartet. The ensemble is coached by Cleveland Orchestra oboist Elizabeth Camus. A string quartet comprised of violinist James Thompson (attends St. Ignatius High School, lives in Pepper Pike), violinist Megan Zapfe (Westlake High School), violist Jordyn Woodhams (home schooled, Seven Hills), and cellist Nathanael Matthews (home schooled, Seville) will perform Dmitri Shostakovich’s five-movement String Quartet No. 8 in C minor, Opus 110. The ensemble is coached by Eli Matthews, first assistant principal violin of The Cleveland Orchestra.

Each of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra’s concerts this season is to be broadcast on later dates by WCLV 104.9 FM. The March 6 concert is scheduled to be broadcast at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, 2011, and 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2011.

Ticket and Parking Information

Ticket Prices: $12 each (reserved seating). Boxes are available at $160 per concert (8 seats per box).

Ticket Office: The Severance Hall Ticket Office is located in the Smith Lobby. The entrance and 15-minute Ticket Service parking are along East Boulevard. The Ticket Office is open 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday-Friday and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Closed Sundays and holidays, except for those days with performances, when the Ticket Office opens 3 hours before concert start time.
