News Release

Blossom Festival

Release date: July 29, 2011

“Bugs Bunny at the Symphony” at the Blossom Festival
on September 3 and 4

Saturday, September 3, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, September 4, at 8:30 p.m.

Bugs Bunny at the Symphony

Bugs Bunny returns to Blossom on Labor Day Weekend with Bugs Bunny at the Symphony, a newly created concert sequel to Bugs Bunny on Broadway, which debuted in 1990 and celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2010.  For these performances of Bugs Bunny at the Symphony, the original cartoon scores by Carl Stalling, Milt Franklyn, and others will be performed live by the Blossom Festival Orchestra, conducted by George Daugherty.

Bugs Bunny at the Symphony spotlights many of the original Looney Tunes treasures of Bugs Bunny on Broadway while adding cartoons featuring favorite Warner Bros, characters such as Tweety, Sylvester, and Pepe Le Pew, plus special guest appearances from the expanded Warner Bros. animation family including Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo, The Flintstones, and others.  The new concert also includes a critically acclaimed montage titled “I Love To Singa,” celebrating the Looney Tunes legacy of songs and songwriting throughout the golden age of cartoons.

George Daugherty, who created both Bugs Bunny on Broadway and Bugs Bunny at the Symphony, made his Cleveland Orchestra debut at Blossom Music Center in 1979, conducting for Joffrey Ballet performances.  In 1991, he returned to Blossom to conduct the Warner Bros. Symphony Orchestra as part of the world premiere tour of Bugs Bunny on Broadway.  He most recently conducted The Cleveland Orchestra in December 2007, at Severance Hall.  At Blossom, Mr. Daugherty has also conducted Rodgers & Hammerstein on Stage and Screen and Blossom Night at the Movies: Celebrating the 85th Anniversary of Warner Bros., programs that he created.  His most recent engagement at Blossom was in September 2009, conducting the Blossom Festival Orchestra in two performances of Bugs Bunny at Blossom, marking the 20th Anniversary of Bugs Bunny on Broadway.
