Jahja Ling (now in his seventh season as music director of the San Diego Symphony) leads The Cleveland Orchestra in a program that features Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with Yuja Wang as soloist, in her Cleveland Orchestra debut. The program also includes Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio espagnol.
Jahja Ling joined the conducting staff of The Cleveland Orchestra in 1984 and served as resident conductor from 1985 to 2002 and as Blossom Festival Director for six seasons, from 2000 to 2005. Since 2005, he has continued to appear with the Orchestra each season, making a continuous relationship with the Orchestra of 27 years. In a review of a June 2010 performance by Chinese pianist Yuja Wang, the San Francisco Chronicle commented that “At 23, Wang doesn’t merely provide listeners with technically dazzling and heart-stoppingly beautiful accounts of the keyboard repertoire, she seems to be redefining what is possible with the instrument.”
