CLEVELAND – Auditions for the 2011-12 Cleveland Orchestra Children’s Chorus and the 2011-12 Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus are being held during the months of May and June 2011.
The Cleveland Orchestra Children’s Chorus participates in performances each year with The Cleveland Orchestra and Cleveland Orchestra Chorus at Severance Hall and frequently in the summer at Blossom Music Center. The ensemble also performs annually at University Circle’s Holiday CircleFest in December and has performed the National Anthem for Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and Cleveland City Stars home games.
The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus presents an average of five concerts each season. In addition to performances in Severance Hall, including a concert with the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, their activities include outreach programs in the Greater Cleveland area. In recent years, the Youth Chorus has collaborated with The Cleveland Orchestra and Cleveland State University and Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music choral ensembles.
Cleveland Orchestra Children’s Chorus (COCC)
The Cleveland Orchestra Children’s Chorus is open by audition to boys and girls entering 5th-8th grades. All boys must have unchanged treble voices.
COCC Audition Dates
Mondays, May 23 and June 6; and Saturday, June 11, by Appointment Only
An accompanist will be provided.

Requirements
Children must sing the first verse of America (“My country ’tis of Thee”) in any key and the first verse of America, the Beautiful (“Oh beautiful, for spacious skies”) in the key of D major. Scales, rhythmic exercises, and sight-reading may be included in the audition.
Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus (COYC)
Students who will be in grades 9-12 in the fall are eligible to audition for the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus.
COYC Audition Dates
Saturday, May 21, and Sunday, May 22, by Appointment Only
An accompanist will be provided.

Requirements
Youth Chorus audition requirements include a prepared piece from the OMEA Solo & Ensemble list or a classical solo piece (no Broadway or “pop” tunes), vocalization for range, sight-reading, and tonal memory.
