The Celebrity Series

Launched as a three-concert series during the 2009-10 season, the Celebrity Series drew sold-out houses for each performance.  The series now offers four concerts, to present an even broader range of musical styles, exploring avenues of orchestral music that stretch beyond the borders of the classical world to include movie scores, jazz riffs, the Great American Songbook, and sounds from the world at large.

THE SERIES CONTINUES:

  • Tuesday, December 20, at 8 p.m. with an additional performance on Wednesday, December 21, at 8 p.m.:  The Colors of Christmas, featuring vocalists Peabo Bryson, Jennifer Holliday, Lea Salonga, and Ben Vereen.  Guest conductor Herman Jackson leads the Orchestra and singers in renditions of beloved favorites such as “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “O Holy Night,” and “Joy to the World,” among many more.
  • Saturday, March 31, at 8 p.m.:  Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights – The Cleveland Orchestra performs the musical soundtrack for a showing of the 1931 classic City Lights (subtitled “A Comedy Romance in Pantomime”), rated as one of the top 100 films of all time and generally considered to be Chaplin’s finest film.  William Eddins conducts the Orchestra.
  • Tuesday, April 10 at 8 p.m.:  Jazz guitarist and singer John Pizzarelli and The Cleveland Orchestra pay tribute to the legendary Nat “King” Cole with an evening of Cole’s best-loved hits, including “Route 66” and “Straighten Up and Fly Right.”  Plus, favorites from the Great American Songbook.
