Fabio Luisi, principal conductor of the Metropolitan Opera, makes his debut with The Cleveland Orchestra in a program featuring two tone poems by Richard Strauss: Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks, Opus 28, and Aus Italien, Opus 16, plus Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 17 in G major, K. 453, with Jonathan Biss as soloist.

Fabio Luisi was named principal conductor of the Metropolitan Opera in September 2011, having served as principal guest conductor with the company since September 2010.  Mr. Luisi made his first American appearances in 2000, with the New York Philharmonic and with the Lyric Opera of Chicago in a new production of Rigoletto.  He made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 2005 with Don Carlo.

Jonathan Biss made his Cleveland Orchestra debut in November 2007, as soloist in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4, under the direction of James Conlon. His next and most recent appearances with the Orchestra were in November 2009, as soloist in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9 (“Jeunehomme”), Bertrand de Billy conducting.
