Pianist Yefim Bronfman will appear in an all-Brahms program of chamber music in Severance Hall’s Reinberger Chamber Hall on Sunday, February 5, at 2 p.m.  The program opens with Johannes Brahms’s Piano Sonata No. 3 in F minor, Opus 5, followed by the Violin Sonata No. 3 in D minor, Opus 108, performed by Mr. Bronfman and Cleveland Orchestra Concertmaster William Preucil.  After intermission, the concert concludes with Brahms’s Piano Quintet in F minor for Piano and Strings, Opus 34, for which Mr. Bronfman will be joined by four Cleveland Orchestra principal musicians:  Concertmaster William Preucil, Principal Second Violin Stephen Rose, Principal Viola Robert Vernon, and Principal Cello Mark Kosower.  The February 5 concert concludes a three-week series of Cleveland Orchestra concerts presenting the three solo concertos of Brahms that runs from January 12 through February 4.  Yefim Bronfman is soloist in Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 2 at concerts on January 19, 20, and 21 and the Piano Concerto No. 1 on February 2, 3, and 4.   Lisa Batiashvili is soloist in the Violin Concerto on January 12, 13, and 14.  These performances are conducted by Franz Welser-Möst.

Yefim Bronfman made his Cleveland Orchestra debut in April 1986, as soloist in Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3.  He has appeared with the Orchestra regularly since then, performing concertos by Bartók, Beethoven, Brahms, Liszt, Mozart, and Prokofiev in a total of more than 25 concerts.  He was the soloist in Franz Welser-Möst’s first concerts as guest conductor with the Orchestra, in February 1993.  Mr. Bronfman gave a recital with pianist Emanuel Ax in Severance Hall in November 2001.
