The Cleveland Orchestra performs Family Concert
Titled "Scenes from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker"
at Severance Hall on December 2
James Feddeck conducts program featuring Joffrey Academy Trainees
Release date: November 7, 2011
The Cleveland Orchestra, under the direction of Assistant Conductor James Feddeck, performs “Scenes from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker,” the second program in the Orchestra’s 2011-12 Family Concert Series, at Severance Hall on Friday, December 2, at 7 p.m. The Nutcracker selections to be performed include favorites such as “Waltz of the Flowers” and “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.” Performing with the Orchestra are Joffrey Academy Trainees from the Joffrey Academy of Dance, the official school of The Joffrey Ballet, which is based in Chicago. Choreography is by Alexei Kremnev, an academy artistic director with the Joffrey Academy of Dance. The concert program begins with Tchaikovsky’s Polonaise from the opera Eugene Onegin.
Family Concert sponsor Giant Eagle will provide free grab and go treats to audience members following the performance.
One-hour Family Concerts are designed for children ages 7 and older and their families, providing an opportunity for families to spend quality time together while enjoying popular classical music performed by one of the world’s top orchestras in historic Severance Hall. Fun, free, concert-related activities are available beginning one hour before each concert. Because this Family Concert is in the evening, with an early start time, there will be only one pre-concert activity prior to the “Scenes from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker” concert. Costumed ballet dancers from the Cleveland School of Dance will perform in the Bogomolny-Kozerefski Grand Foyer beginning at 6 p.m.
Silver Bells for Christmas
For 44 years, the Schreibman family, in conjunction with the Women’s Committee of The Cleveland Orchestra, has sold engraved Silver Bells to benefit The Cleveland Orchestra’s education programs. The Silver Bells, engraved with “Christmas 2011” and priced at $20 each, have become a favorite holiday tradition. Members of the Women’s Committee will be selling the bells in Severance Hall’s Smith Lobby prior to this Family Concert. The bells are also available for purchase at the Cleveland Orchestra Store and several gift shops in greater Cleveland.
