Cleveland Orchestra Artist-in-Residence Ton Koopman, an internationally acclaimed conductor and early music authority, leads The Cleveland Orchestra in a program of works by Johann Sebastian Bach, including Brandenburg Concerto No. 1, Orchestral Suite No. 3, and Cantata No. 202, “Weichet nur, betrübte Schatten” (“Wedding” Cantata), with soprano Teresa Wakim as soloist, in her Severance Hall debut.  (Ms. Wakim, an alumna of Oberlin College, made her Cleveland Orchestra debut at the Blossom Festival in August 2011).  For a complete program listing, see the calendar that follows this release.

During his second season as Artist-in-Residence with The Cleveland Orchestra, Ton Koopman conducts the Orchestra in two weeks of concerts at Severance Hall: the second week features works by Boccherini, Locatelli, and Mozart on May 3, 4, and 5, 2012.  Mr. Koopman leads a public choral masterclass at the Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music on Saturday, November 19, with the Baldwin-Wallace Motet Choir.

FREE CONCERT PREVIEWS

Beginning one hour prior to the concerts on November 17, 18, and 19, a Concert Preview titled “Bach’s Music for Court and City” will be given in Reinberger Chamber Hall by David J. Rothenberg, professor of musicology at Case Western Reserve University.  This series is funded by a generous endowment gift from Dorothy Humel Hovorka.

These concerts are sponsored by Jones Day.

Ton Koopman’s appearances as Artist-in-Residence with The Cleveland Orchestra
are made possible by the Malcolm E. Kenney Artist-in-Residence Fund.
