Franz Welser-Möst and The Cleveland Orchestra celebrate the opening weekend of Mr. Welser-Möst’s tenth season as Music Director with a gala concert to benefit the Orchestra’s education and community programs. The one-hour concert features the “Marcia funebre” and “Allegro maestoso” movements from Ferdinand David’s Concertino in E-flat major for Trombone and Orchestra, Opus 4, with Principal Trombone Massimo La Rosa as soloist, and the opening “Allegro aperto” movement from Wolfgang Amadè Mozart’s Concerto in C major for Oboe and Orchestra, K. 314, with Principal Oboe Frank Rosenwein as soloist. The program also includes Antonín Dvořák’s Carnival Overture and Alberto Ginastera’s Variaciones Concertantes, Opus 23, and concludes with Maurice Ravel’s Boléro.
The concert precedes a gala dinner celebrating the beginning of Franz Welser-Möst’s tenth season as Music Director of The Cleveland Orchestra. Norma Lerner is Gala Chair and Beth Mooney is Corporate Chair. The three-course dinner will be prepared by Chef Zack Bruell.
All proceeds from this event will be donated to create a gift in Franz Welser-Möst’s name to the 2011-12 Cleveland Orchestra Education Programs. The contribution will benefit young people throughout Northeast Ohio through innovative performances in schools and at Severance Hall.
Individual gala ticket prices (celebration includes valet parking, cocktails, concert, and dinner) are $1,500, $1,000, and $500. To purchase gala tickets, or for more information, contact Emily Szy at 216-231-7524 or eszy@clevelandorchestra.com.
Gala Lead Sponsors: Forest City Enterprises, KeyBank Foundation, The Lerner Foundation, Audrey and Albert Ratner
