Franz Welser-Möst conducts The Cleveland Orchestra in concerts featuring Wolfgang Amadè Mozart’s Mass in C minor, K. 427 (“The Great”) at Severance Hall.  Vocal soloists for the Mass will be soprano Malin Hartelius; soprano Julia Lezhneva, in her Cleveland Orchestra debut; tenor Martin Mitterrutzner; and baritone Ruben Drole.  The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, prepared by Director of Choruses Robert Porco, will perform with the Orchestra in this work.  The opening piece on the program is Richard Strauss’s Metamorphosen, A Study for 23 Solo Strings.

Malin Hartelius and Ruben Drole have both appeared with the Orchestra in a number of engagements, including the performances of the three Mozart/Da Ponte operas, between 2009 and 2011.  Martin Mitterrutzner made his Cleveland Orchestra debut in a group of Mozart arias in March 2010.

Saturday, October 8, at 8:30 p.m.
(note later starting time)

Franz Welser-Möst leads The Cleveland Orchestra in a concert featuring Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F minor, Opus 36, at Severance Hall.  The program begins with Igor Stravinsky’s Concerto in D (for string orchestra), followed by Stravinsky’s Agon ballet music.

Stravinsky’s Agon has only been performed by The Cleveland Orchestra on three previous occasions: for a performance of the complete ballet by the New York City Ballet at Blossom Music Center in August 1969, and in a pair of concerts that were conducted by Pierre Boulez at Severance Hall in March 1972.
