Concert Details

Brahms was enjoying a trip to the Rhine when he was struck by a flash of inspiration.  He cancelled the rest his vacation plans and composed his Third Symphony virtually nonstop — in less than four months — in sharp contrast to the twenty years he spent on his First.  Clara Schumann wrote to Brahms, “All the movements seem to be of one piece, one beat of the heart.” The concerts concludes with a delightful work by Bach featuring his famous Air on the G String.
