Ann Usher has served as director of the Cleveland Orchestra Children’s Choruses since 2000. She prepares the Children’s Chorus for their appearances as part of the annual Christmas concerts, community concerts, and in the Orchestra’s performances of operas and symphonic works that call for children’s voices.
Ms. Usher is the associate dean of the Fine Arts division of Buchtel College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Akron, where she teaches graduate and undergraduate choral music education courses. She is also serving as interim director of the School of Music for the 2018-19 school year. She previously taught choral music in the public schools, specializing in the middle school level. Ms. Usher is the president-elect of the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) and in 2014 served as director of OMEA’s inaugural All-State Children’s Chorus for fourth and fifth graders.
Active as a clinician and adjudicator, Ann Usher holds a bachelor of music education degree from the University of Northern Iowa, and a master of music degree in choral conducting and a doctorate in music education from Kent State University.
