The Cleveland Orchestra

Stephen Warner is a native of Philadelphia, where he began studying the violin at age six at the Settlement School. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in performance from the Curtis Institute of Music in 1979, he joined the violin section of The Cleveland Orchestra. Mr. Warner is a founding member of the Cleveland Duo with his wife, pianist and violinist Carolyn Gadiel Warner, and of the Cleveland Duo and James Umble. (Mr. Umble is a noted classical saxophonist.) Both ensembles have been featured in numerous national and international publications, such as The Strad and The Saxophone Journal. They tour actively throughout North America and can be heard in recordings on the Cappella, Dana, and Klavier labels. As a member of the Cleveland Duo, Mr. Warner has performed duo concertos with numerous orchestras and wind ensembles, including the Case Western University Wind Ensemble, with whom the Duo has premiered several works at Severance Hall and in other states. The Cleveland Duo performed in a festival in Tuscany, Italy, in June 2007.
