Robert Shaw Is Hired To Build The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus
Robert Shaw was appointed associate conductor of the Orchestra and director of the Chorus in 1956, a post he held until 1967. George Szell, then music director, was determined that the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus be brought to a level of excellence matching that of the Orchestra. Szell hired Shaw to take on the challenge — which he successfully accomplished!
