On this Week: Happy Birthday, America
As we look ahead to America’s 250th birthday, look back at past Independence Day celebrations at Blossom.
Each year, Blossom Music Center lights up with fireworks to celebrate America’s birthday. The performing honors have been shared by The Cleveland Orchestra and the Blossom Festival Band. The Band debuted for the first July 4th celebration concert in 1969 under the baton of famed Music Man composer Meredith Willson. Leonard B. Smith began conducting the annual concerts in 1972 until Loras John Schissel took over in 1998. Last year, Michelle Rakers took the baton.
