CLEVELAND ORCHESTRA

Concert Details

Brahms was enjoying a trip to the Rhine when he was struck by a flash of inspiration.  He cancelled the rest his vacation plans and composed his Third Symphony virtually nonstop — in less than four months — in sharp contrast to the twenty years he spent on his First.  Clara Schumann wrote to Brahms, “All the movements seem to be of one piece, one beat of the heart.”
