Martha Baldwin


Martha Baldwin joined the cello section of The Cleveland Orchestra beginning with the 2001 Blossom Festival season. She had previously served as principal cello of the Canton Symphony Orchestra, assistant principal cello of the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, and principal cello of the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra. A native of Calgary, Alberta, she is a national gold medalist for the associate and licentiate exams from Mount Royal College in Calgary and from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. She received a bachelor of music degree from Rice University in Houston, Texas, and a master of music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Ms. Baldwin has studied with Stephen Geber (former principal cello of The Cleveland Orchestra), Desmond Hoebig (former principal cello of The Cleveland Orchestra), Paul Katz, and Harvey Shapiro. She has appeared as soloist with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Canton Symphony Orchestra, Columbia (Missouri) Civic Symphony, National Repertory Orchestra, and Cleveland’s Suburban Symphony. Ms. Baldwin serves on the faculties of the University of Akron and the Cleveland Institute of Music.
