Emma Shook

Emma Shook, a native of Oregon, joined the second violin section of The Cleveland Orchestra in 2001. Prior to this appointment, she was a member of the Lyric Opera of Chicago orchestra and of the Santa Fe Opera orchestra. Ms. Shook earned bachelor of music and master of music degrees from the Juilliard School where she was a scholarship student of Dorothy DeLay and Hyo Kang. At Juilliard, she co-founded a conductorless chamber orchestra, and in 1992 won the Peter Mennin prize for leadership and achievement in music. Ms. Shook has given many chamber music concerts in the United States and abroad. She is also a participant in The Cleveland Orchestra’s Learning Through Music program, which brings musicians into the classrooms of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and other area schools. Ms. Shook lives with her family in Cleveland Heights.
