Liyuan Xie


Liyuan Xie joined The Cleveland Orchestra’s violin section in August 2023. He is a recent graduate of the New England Conservatory, where he studied with Miriam Fried. Xie previously studied with Binyou Zhou at the middle school affiliated with Shanghai Conservatory.

Since his solo orchestral debut at age 11, Xie has collaborated regularly with the Shanghai Philharmonic, Shanghai Opera Symphony, Nanjing Philharmonic, Qingdao Symphony, Shanghai Chamber Orchestra, and many others. Recent concert engagements include performances of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with Nanjing Philharmonic, Bruch’s First Violin Concerto with the Brookline Symphony Orchestra, Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with the Apollo Ensemble of Boston, as well as recitals with pianist Hongbo Cai in Providence, Rhode Island; Randolph, Connecticut; and New Britain, and Boston, Massachusetts. Xie was recently invited to be a guest-artist-in-residence for the Ordos Symphony Orchestra and violinist of the Jiangsu Centre for the Performing Arts Chamber Ensemble, the leading chamber music program in China.

Xie has performed as guest assistant principal second violin with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and appeared with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood. He has served as concertmaster and in other leadership positions with the NEC Symphony, NEC Philharmonia,and NEC Chamber Orchestra, as well as the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra, Verbier Festival Orchestra, and Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra.
