Richard Waugh


Violist Richard Waugh joined The Cleveland Orchestra in 1994. Before joining the Orchestra, he spent several years in the U.S. Army, followed by two seasons as a University of New Mexico NCAA basketball player. He began his career as a violist with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, then enrolled at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied with Robert Vernon, principal viola of The Cleveland Orchestra. While studying at CIM, Mr. Waugh performed as principal viola of the Ohio Chamber Orchestra. During the 1992-93 season, he served as the acting principal viola of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
