About the Music

Lili Boulanger D’un matin de printemps

Chopin Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor

Chin Rocaná for Orchestra

Debussy La mer

Always a favorite of Cleveland audiences, Emmanuel Ax returns to perform Chopin’s brilliant and virtuosic concerto. Debussy developed his love of the sea beginning with childhood visits to the Mediterranean, and this imaginative, impressionistic sketch captures all of the moods of the sea, from tranquil to ominous and stormy, dazzling and full of elemental force.

"Ax’s greatness, his overwhelming authority as musician, technician and probing intellect emerges quickly as he plays. Within minutes, we are totally captured by his intensity and pianistic achievement.”

— Los Angeles Times
