Composer-conductor Thomas Adès takes listeners on a sonic trek from the deepest depths of the underworld to farthest reaches of the galaxy. Holst’s cosmic showpiece The Planets provides a striking complement to Adès’s hair-raising music from Inferno, his ballet inspired by Dante’s tour of hell. In between, a US premiere by Spanish composer Francisco Coll, which he described as “a ballet without choreography.”
A free concert preview lecture with Kevin McBrien, The Cleveland Orchestra’s Editorial and Publications Manager, will take place in Mandel Concert Hall one hour before the performance.
