Celebrating 40 years of COYO

Founded under the auspices of The Cleveland Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra (COYO) was established to provide talented young musicians with a pre-professional orchestral experience of the highest artistic standard. Since its founding in 1986, COYO has performed more than 200 concerts and provided a musical home to more than 1,500 talented young musicians. Now entering its 40th season in fall 2026, COYO continues to be the leading orchestral training program for young musicians in northern Ohio.

One of the best aspects of COYO is that it is an extremely welcoming community. Throughout my 2 years in the orchestra, I've always felt as though everyone interacted warmly with each other, cultivating a culture centered on companionship and an universal love for music.

What’s it like to be a member?

COYO has been a transformative experience for me. I feel after just one year of being in the orchestra that I've progressed exponentially in my cello playing. I loved how everything was organized down to the minute as well as the friendly atmosphere of the orchestra.
