Music Director Franz Welser-Möst leads a riveting program steeped in ancient mythology. Stravinsky’s musical exploration of the Orpheus myth traces the hero’s journey to the underworld and back with both beauty and restraint. Then, drawing from Finland’s national epic, Sibelius’s Four Legends from the Kalevala weaves tales of love, loss, and transfiguration, including its haunting second movement inspired by the Swan of Tuonela.
A free concert preview lecture with Ellen Sauer Tanyeri, The Cleveland Orchestra’s Archives and Editorial Assistant, will take place in Reinberger Chamber Hall one hour before the performance.
