Lucas Meachem

Grammy Award–winning baritone Lucas Meachem is renowned for his mastery of a wide variety of leading operatic roles, as well as the creation of new ones.

In the 2026–27 season, Meachem returns to Madrid’s Teatro Real for his role debut as Lescaut in Manon Lescaut before joining The Cleveland Orchestra for Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem. He then makes his fifth appearance as Marcello in La bohème at the Metropolitan Opera. Later in the season, he returns to Houston Grand Opera for his role debut as Amonasro in Aida, joins the New York Philharmonic for Carmina Burana, and makes his debut at Opera di Roma in Verdi’s I due Foscari. He also joins Renée Fleming and the London Philharmonic Orchestra for Jake Heggie’s The Brightness of Light. He concludes the season reprising the roles of Count Almaviva in The Marriage of Figaro with Los Angeles Opera and Sharpless in Madama Butterfly at the Royal Ballet and Opera.

Among Meachem’s other career highlights include the title roles in The Barber of Seville at the Vienna Staatsoper, Don Giovanni at the Glyndebourne Festival, Britten’s Billy Budd at Opéra National de Paris, and Eugene Onegin at Komische Oper Berlin; Wolfram von Eschenbach in Tannhäuser at Japan’s Saito Kinen Festival; and the world premiere of José María Sánchez-Verdú’s El Viaje a Simorgh at Teatro Real. Meachem’s debut solo album, Shall We Gather — featuring his wife, Irina, at the piano — was released in September 2021 under Rubicon Records.

Beyond the stage, Meachem is deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of artists through masterclasses and mentorship. In July 2020, he founded the Perfect Day Music Foundation, which empowers aspiring professional opera singers through education, financial assistance, and performance opportunities while deepening audiences’ understanding of music and performance. Current initiatives include an online competition that uses social media to raise awareness for new compositions, and a series of masterclass giveaway events throughout the United States.

Born in North Carolina, Meachem studied music at Appalachian State University, the Eastman School of Music, and Yale University before becoming an Adler Fellow with San Francisco Opera.
