LEONORA (SOPRANO)
Son giunta! Grazie, o Dio!
Estremo asil quest’è per me!
Son giunta! Io tremo!
La mia orrenda storia è nota in quell’albergo,
e mio fratel narrolla!
Se scoperta m’avesse! Cielo!
Ei disse naviga vers’occaso Don Alvaro!
Né morto cadde quella notte in cui io,
io del sangue di mio padre intrisa,
l’ho seguito e il perdei!
Ed or mi lascia, mi fugge!
Ah! ohimé, non reggo a tant’ambascia!
Madre, pietosa Vergine, perdona al mio peccato,
m’aita quel’ingrato dal core a cancellar.
In queste solitudini espierò l’errore.
Pietà di me, Signore.
Deh! non m’abbandonar!
Ah, que’ sublimi cantici ...
Dell’organo i concenti,
che come incenso
ascendono a Dio sui firmamenti,
inspirano a quest’alma fede, conforto e calma!

I’ve arrived! Thank you, O God!
This is my last refuge!
I’ve arrived! I’m trembling!
My dreadful story is known in that inn,
and my brother is staying there!
If he had discovered me! Heaven!
He said, “Sail toward the west,” Don Alvaro!
Nor did he die that night when I,
drenched in my father’s blood,
followed him and lost him!
And now he leaves me, he flees from me!
Ah! Alas, I cannot bear such anguish!
Mother, merciful Virgin, forgive my sin,
help me to erase that liar from my heart.
In these solitudes I will atone for my error.
Have mercy on me, Lord.
Please! Do not abandon me!
Ah, those sublime hymns ...
The organ’s strains,
which, like incense,
ascend to God through the heavens,
instill in this soul faith, comfort, and peace!

CHORUS OF MONKS
Venite, adoremus, et procedamus ante Deum,
ploremus coram Domino,
coram Domino qui fecit nos.

Come, let us adore and bow before God.
Let us weep before the Lord,
before the Lord who made us.

LEONORA
Al santo asilo accorrasi.
E l’oserò a quest’ora?
Alcun potria sorprendermi!
Oh, misera Leonora, tremi?
Il pio frate, accoglierti, no, non ricuserà, no!
Non mi lasciar, soccorrimi,
pietà Signor, pietà!
Deh! non m’abbandonar!

Hurry to the holy refuge.
But dare I go at this hour?
Someone might catch me!
Oh, poor Leonora, are you trembling?
The pious friar will not refuse to take you in, no!
Don’t leave me, help me,
have mercy on me, Lord, have mercy!
Please! Don’t abandon me!

CHORUS OF MONKS
Ploremus, ploremus
coram Domino qui fecit nos.

Let us weep, let us weep
before the Lord who made us.
