October 10, 2023 An update on upcoming tour

The Cleveland Orchestra has made the decision to cancel its upcoming tour in Israel. The safety of our musicians and staff is a top priority, and this decision was based on State Department guidelines in consultation with security advisors. The Orchestra will still travel to Austria to perform concerts in Vienna on October 18 and Linz on October 20. Our thoughts are with friends and family in Israel right now, and we hope for their continued safety.

The Cleveland Orchestra raised $1.2 million for its artistic, education,and community engagement programs during its annual gala on Saturday, September 30, at Severance Music Center. More than 250 guests enjoyed an elegant evening of dinner, drinks, and music. The highlight of the gala was Music Director Franz Welser-Möst leading The Cleveland Orchestra in a selection of works by Richard Strauss and Johann Strauss Jr.

October 2, 2023 The Cleveland Orchestra’s management and musicians ratify new trade agreement

Management and Musicians of The Cleveland Orchestra have successfully concluded negotiations for a new, three-year trade agreement for the 2023-2024, 2024-2025, and 2025-2026 seasons. The agreement was ratified by the members of the Orchestra through a vote last week.

The Cleveland Orchestra announced updates to musician personnel with five new members and one member to a first assistant principal position. Earlier this year, Charles Paul, a bass section member since 2022, was appointed first assistant principal bass. The Cleveland Orchestra will also welcome: Meghan Guegold Hegeas assistant/utility horn, Tanner Tanyerias percussionist, Youngji Kim and Genevieve Smelser as first violinists, and Liyaun Xieas second violinist. Hege will start June 26, while Tanyeri, Kim, Smelser,and Xie will start August 28.

In October 2023, The Cleveland Orchestra and Music Director Franz Welser-Möst embark on their 21st international tour together, with five performances in Austria and Israel: Vienna, Linz, Haifa, Tel Aviv, and Jerusalem, visiting Israel for the first time. In addition to this being The Cleveland Orchestra’s Israel debut, The Cleveland Orchestra will be the first American orchestra to visit Israel since 2018.

The Cleveland Orchestra announced a $1 million gift to the Orchestra’s general endowment to establish the Gay Cull Addicott and Robert R. Cull Fund, from the estate of the late Gay Cull Addicott, a Cleveland Orchestra Trustee for Life. Gay served as a trustee from 2002 to 2022.

The Cleveland Orchestra announced the hiring of Jejuana C. Brown in the senior team role of Director of Diversity & Inclusion. Ms. Brown assumes this position starting Wednesday, January 11. Reporting directly to The Cleveland Orchestra’s President & CEO and in close collaboration with the Vice President, Human Resources, as well as all executive and senior leadership, the Director of Diversity & Inclusion is a new position responsible for guiding and implementing efforts to define, understand, assess, and cultivate diversity.
